Michael Wittmeyer and Jonathan Wanchalk launched JM Bullion on September 30, 2011 from a basement in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. They relocated the operation to Dallas, Texas in June 2014 to reach a deeper hiring pool.
The company now reports more than $14 billion in lifetime sales and over 6 million orders shipped, placing it among the largest online precious metals retailers in the United States. A-Mark Precious Metals, now operating as Gold.com, acquired the business in March 2021.

Your bullion can do more than sit locked up. Inside a retirement account, it grows with tax breaks and cushions your savings when markets turn, which a straight cash purchase never does. People call that a Gold IRA.
We rolled up our sleeves and chose five companies we’d trust with our family’s money. Where does JM Bullion sit on that list? Worth a look before you commit anything.

Our Verdict
JM Bullion works best for a specific buyer. You pay by bank wire or ACH, you’re buying standard bullion in orders of $500 or more, you comparison-shop premiums on the day you purchase, you want the metal delivered to your door, and you can wait three to five days for payment to clear.
That buyer gets competitive pricing, same-day or next-day fulfillment, and packaging that reviewers praise across every platform.
Keep looking if you’re stacking $150 at a time. You’ll pay $9.95 shipping on the way in and hit a $1,000 floor on the way out, which leaves you without an exit through this channel. Skip it if you need weekend help, since the five-day return clock and two-day claim clock both keep running when support is dark.
And skip it if you want one bundled Gold IRA quote covering dealer, custodian, and depository fees, since those numbers don’t exist on the site. Recommended for the mid-to-large physical buyer who pays by wire and plans the sale before the purchase.
What Is JM Bullion?

JM Bullion is an online retailer selling physical gold, silver, platinum, palladium, and copper at live spot plus a published premium. Orders ship from a fulfillment center located inside Las Vegas Airport, which shortens the handoff to carrier aircraft. Once you reach checkout, your price locks for 10 minutes.
The order minimum is $100 across the board. Guest checkout is available for every payment type, so no account is required to buy. AutoBuy handles recurring scheduled purchases for anyone dollar-cost averaging into a position.
Around the retail business sit several adjacent services: the Sell To Us buyback tool, TDS Vaults storage, metals-backed loans through Collateral Finance Corporation, personalized engraving, and corporate gifting. The company sells and ships metal. It does not custody retirement accounts.
Who Owns JM Bullion Now

Ownership matters more here than in almost any other purchase you make online. You’re wiring four or five figures to a stranger and then waiting for a box.
From a Lancaster Basement to a Nasdaq Parent
A-Mark Precious Metals acquired JM Bullion on March 19, 2021. A-Mark now operates as Gold.com and trades publicly on Nasdaq under the ticker AMRK. Public ownership gives you audited financials, SEC filings, and a solvency picture private dealers simply don’t publish.
Here’s the part most reviews leave out. JM Bullion, BGASC, Silver.com, and Provident Metals all sit under that same parent. Shopping across those four brands feels like diversification. It isn’t.
One flag worth raising: the IRA page describes the parent as “NYSE: GOLD, a distinguished member of the Fortune 500.” A-Mark trades on Nasdaq, not the NYSE, and has not appeared on the Fortune 500. Verify that claim yourself before repeating it.
The People Running the Company
Michael Wittmeyer, co-founder and CEO, won the 2019 EY Entrepreneur of the Year award for the Southwest region in Retail and Consumer Products. He is the only executive named anywhere on jmbullion.com.
There is no leadership page. No executive bios, no team photos, no advisory board. Three officers appear on the BBB filing and nowhere on the company’s own website.
That’s unremarkable for an e-commerce retailer. It’s less usual for a firm that supplies metal into retirement accounts. There are no paid celebrity spokespeople either, which some buyers will read as a positive.
What Products Does JM Bullion Sell?

The catalog runs to roughly 2,000-plus unique products across five metals. Stated policy is in-stock selling only, so you’re not waiting on a backorder that may never fill.
Bullion Across Five Metals

Gold covers bars from one gram to one kilo, plus American Eagles, Buffalos, Canadian Maple Leafs, British Britannias, Krugerrands, Austrian Philharmonics, Perth Kangaroos, and Mexican issues. Rounds, Goldbacks, and fractional gold round out the low-entry end.
Silver is deeper. Rounds, bars from 1 oz through 100 oz and kilo sizes, American Silver Eagles in uncirculated and MintSealed formats, Maple Leafs, Britannias, Libertads, Chinese Pandas, 90/40/35% junk silver, monster boxes, and silver shot.
Platinum, palladium, and copper appear in both bar and coin form. Practical note for cost-focused buyers: bars and generic rounds carry lower premiums per ounce than sovereign coins, sometimes by a wide margin.
Collectibles, Rare Coins, and Themed Series

The non-bullion side is what separates JM Bullion from pure discount sellers. There’s a rare coins collection with Pre-1933 US gold and Morgan and Peace silver dollars, plus themed runs including America250, the Lunar Year series, the new NCAA Collegiate Collection, Sports Fan Collectibles, Marilyn Monroe, Zombucks, and Trump bullion.
You’ll find personalized engraving, custom corporate gifts, Nebü gold jewelry, and hardware: capsules, tubes, Pelican micro cases, presentation boxes, and safes.
The honest caveat: numismatic depth here is thinner than at dealers built around rare coins, and collectible premiums run far above bullion premiums. Buy those for the object, not the ounce.
What You Actually Pay at Checkout

The sticker price is not one number at JM Bullion. It shifts based on how you pay, and the gap is bigger than most buyers expect.
Your Payment Method Sets Your Price
Bank wire, ACH, and paper check earn a 4% discount. Crypto earns 3%. Credit card, debit card, and PayPal pay full sticker.
On a $2,500 gold coin, that’s roughly $100 more for the convenience of a card. Every year. Every order.
The limits matter too. Wire runs $500 to $1,000,000. ACH runs $0 to $100,000 with 3 to 5 business days of clearing. Cards cap at $5,000 and require billing and shipping addresses to match. PayPal caps at $10,000, Klarna at $30,000, crypto at $2,000,000.
Here’s the trade-off you’ll actually feel: the cheapest methods are the slowest. Nothing ships until payment clears, so a check order can sit for a week before it moves.
Tip: Under $1,000, pay by card and accept the 4% for speed. Above $2,500, wire it. The discount stops being a rounding error fast.
Where the Premiums Beat the Competition, and Where They Don’t
A 1 oz American Gold Eagle typically runs about $30 to $55 over spot at check or wire pricing, against roughly $40 to $75 at APMEX. On silver, expect around $1.50 to $3.00 per ounce over spot versus $2.00 to $4.00 at APMEX.
Now the part most reviews skip. JM Bullion does not consistently beat the deep-discount dealers, and on gold it can be undercut by several dollars per ounce. Shipping is free over $199, $9.95 below that, with automatic bulk discounts and weekly sales layered on top.
Competitive? Yes. Cheapest? Not reliably.
How Orders Ship and What the Insurance Really Covers

A reader contacted us with a situation I couldn’t answer in one line. He’d ordered silver bars, saw tracking flip to delivered, and found an anonymous cardboard box on his step that he assumed belonged to someone else in the household.
He opened it two weeks later. By then his window to report anything had already closed. Nothing he did was wrong. The policy simply worked exactly as it’s written.
Shipping Speed, Carriers, and Packaging
Orders ship within one business day of cleared payment, and most go out the same day. Carriers include USPS, FedEx, UPS, and armored car, selected by what’s in the box.
That Las Vegas Airport fulfillment center cuts the ground leg to the carrier. Packaging is deliberately plain, with no exterior hint of contents and a return address that reveals nothing.
Tracking arrives by email with optional SMS at ship, delay, out-for-delivery, and delivered. Domestic only, though PO boxes and military addresses are accepted. Across every review platform, fulfillment is the single most repeated praise.
The Two-Day Claim Window
Read this part twice. Transit insurance ends the instant a signature is captured or delivery is recorded. Claims for a tampered box, a short count, or visible damage must be filed within two calendar days.
Calendar, not business. A Friday delivery leaves you until Sunday, with zero weekend support staffing to take the call.
That clause shows up repeatedly in the complaint record, including a $4,200 silver order and a $116,689 order, both denied on late-reporting grounds. Neither buyer was accused of dishonesty. They were late.
Tip: Open the box the day it arrives. Photograph the seals before you cut them, then count on camera. Ninety seconds of video is your entire case.
Your Nest Egg Wasn’t Built for an Era Like This
The savings you spent decades building deserve more than paper assets and dollar exposure. A Gold IRA puts physical metal behind your retirement and keeps the same tax treatment you already know. Click your state to get started.
Selling Metal Back to JM Bullion

Most buyers research how to get in and never check how to get out. That’s backwards, and it’s the single most expensive habit in this category.
How the Sell To Us Tool Works

This is a genuine differentiator: it’s the only self-service online buyback tool among major dealers. Log in, pick your products, lock a price 24/7, ship the metal in. No specialist call required.
Payment issues within a week of receipt. Now the limits. There’s a $1,000 minimum, below which the company refers you to its own local dealer directory. Not every product appears in the tool. Once you lock, you’re committed regardless of which way spot moves, and penalties apply if you don’t send.
Items that don’t match what you locked get re-quoted after inspection, which is where several complaints originate. Reportable sales require a completed W-9 before payment, with Form 1099-B mailed by February 15 of the following year.
The Round-Trip Cost Nobody Quotes
Stop asking what the premium is. Start asking what the round trip costs.
The number that decides your outcome is the full gap between what you pay today and what they’ll pay you back later. On a single 1 oz Gold Eagle, that gap commonly lands between $60 and $100 once both sides are counted. That’s the real cost of ownership, not the markup on the buy ticket.
Then ask the second question almost nobody asks: can you actually sell? With a $1,000 floor, a $600 silver stack has no exit through this channel. Your buyer becomes whatever local shop will see you, at whatever price they name.
Plan the sale before you fund the purchase.
Storage Options Through TDS Vaults

Storage runs through TDS Vaults, a sister company under the same parent, operating since 1965.
Metal is fully allocated, double-audited, and you select storage at checkout rather than through a separate application. Retrieval takes up to a week, and there’s a six-months-free promotion for new accounts.
| Location | Bullion | Numismatic | Handling fee* |
| Dallas | 0.50% | 0.90% | $50 |
| Las Vegas | 0.50% | 0.90% | $50 |
| Singapore | 0.50% | 0.90% | $50 |
| Toronto | 0.50% | 0.90% | $50 |
| Zurich | 0.80% | 0.90% | $100 |
*Per check-in or checkout.
One tax wrinkle worth catching early: metal stored in Nevada or Texas falls under that state’s sales tax treatment, not your home state’s. You can sell straight out of storage without shipping anything, which removes a full transit leg and its claim risk.
The JM Bullion Precious Metals IRA

Set your expectations correctly here. JM Bullion supplies metal into a retirement account. It does not run one. That distinction shapes every point below, and it’s why anyone shopping this category seriously should find more gold IRA providers before committing.
How the Account Actually Gets Opened

The stated process is three steps: open a self-directed IRA, fund it, then buy IRA-eligible metals. New Direction Trust Company is the named partner custodian. Account setup takes 1 to 2 business days once they receive your application, and funding can take several weeks.
Rolling over a 401(k)? You have 60 days to complete an indirect rollover before tax consequences land. There’s a dedicated IRA phone line and email, and the callback form on that page is the only lead-capture form on the entire site.
Now the contradiction. One section of the IRA page says JM Bullion opens the account and manages the process for you. The FAQ directly below it says the company is not able to set up the actual IRA and can only recommend custodians. Those two statements cannot both be true.
Which Metals Qualify, and Which Don’t

The fineness thresholds are published plainly: gold .995, silver .999, platinum .9995, palladium .9995. The American Gold Eagle is the statutory exception, qualifying at .9167 despite sitting below the gold threshold.
What trips people up is the exclusion list. Pre-1933 US gold, Krugerrands, and 90% US silver coins do not qualify, no matter how much bullion value they carry.
JM Bullion maintains separate IRA-eligible collections for each metal, which makes shopping simpler. Final eligibility calls belong to your custodian, not the dealer.
Where the Metal Sits and What It Costs
Metal ships from the facility within 1 to 5 business days of cleared funds, then takes another 1 to 5 days to reach the depository, insured the whole way.
Vaults sit in Las Vegas and Dallas under Lloyd’s of London coverage. IRS rules bar you from taking personal delivery, since that counts as a distribution.
Here’s the finding that matters most. Setup, annual, and storage fees are not published anywhere on the IRA page. The site says they “vary” and points you to your custodian.
Tip: Get the custodian’s complete written fee schedule, including setup, annual maintenance, storage, and termination charges, before you fund a single dollar. A dealer that can’t quote total cost of ownership hasn’t told you the price yet.
The JM Bullion Mobile App

The free app, listed as “Gold & Silver Spot JM Bullion,” runs on iOS and Android. Inside it you can track live spot across gold, silver, platinum, and palladium, and set alerts that fire when a metal hits your target number.
You can browse the full catalog, complete a purchase, check order status and tracking, and pull up account history. The App Store rating sits near 4.8 across roughly 21,900 ratings, and reviewers on other platforms specifically mention buying through it and feeling secure doing so.
One honest limitation: the app mirrors the website rather than adding anything the site lacks. It’s convenience, not capability.
What the Star Ratings Are Really Measuring

A single averaged star rating hides more than it reveals in this category. The number you see on the homepage and the number that reflects your odds of a clean order are measuring two different moments.
The Five Scorecards Side by Side
| Platform | Rating | Reviews |
| BBB (A+, accredited) | 4.55/5 | 548 |
| Trustpilot | 4.5/5 | 2,530 |
| ConsumerAffairs | 4.5/5 | 1,041 |
| Shopper Approved | 4.8/5 | 429,619 |
| 4.8/5 | 6,549 |
The distribution tells you more than the average. On Trustpilot it’s a barbell, not a bell curve: 79% five-star against 13% one-star, with almost nothing in between. ConsumerAffairs shows the identical shape, 752 five-star reviews against 160 one-star.
Translation: most people have a smooth, forgettable experience. A real minority has a bad one. Averaging those two groups produces a number that describes neither.
Inside the BBB Complaint File
The file shows 197 complaints over three years, with 121 closed in the last twelve months alone. That concentration is worth naming. Of the 197, roughly 130 are marked Answered and 69 Resolved, meaning about a third reached verified resolution.
The type split runs heavily toward delivery and service issues, not product quality or misrepresentation.
So why does Shopper Approved sit at 4.8 when everyone else lands near 4.5? Because it’s a seller-initiated survey that fires at checkout, right after payment clears and long before any metal moves. It measures whether the website worked.
Trustpilot and the BBB catch people later: after fulfillment, after a claim, after a buyback. Neither number is dishonest. They’re clocking different moments, and you deserve to know which is which.
How JM Bullion Compares to Other Online Dealers
| JM Bullion | APMEX | Discount tier | |
| Catalog | ~2,000 products | Lager | Thinner |
| Gold premium | Mid | Higher | Lowest |
| Numismatics | Light | Deep | Minimal |
| Ordering polish | High | High | Basic |
| Self-serve buyback | Yes | No | Rare |
One data point worth holding onto: JM Bullion currently ranks mid-to-lower within its own Trustpilot category despite that 4.5 score, which a headline rating hides completely.
Compare live pricing on the exact product you want, on the day you buy. Premiums move daily, and the cheapest dealer changes with them.
